So you think you can’t retrieve deleted Facebook conversations?
Maybe you can’t but Facebook certainly can and today I have had proof of that.
I encountered a scary “glitch” where dozens and dozens of deleted conversations from one year ago, have returned to my inbox.
I regularly clean up my Facebook inbox by deleting (and not archiving) conversations. Yesterday I deleted all conversations and had a perfectly empty inbox. I even tweeted this, inspired by my cleaning up:
Today, conversations have returned. Some of them I deleted yesterday, others I deleted in the end of August but many of them were very very old conversations from 2015.
I have no idea how to investigate this issue. At first I thought that maybe facebook chat somehow synchronized with the messenger. But they don’t show up in the messenger. My first reaction was to start deleting conversations again but then I stopped to think about this in a calmer way. Group conversations that I have long ago deleted, have appeared in the messenger now as well.
And let’s assume that I hadn’t deleted those group conversations (though I had). What about the dozens of private messages that have reappeared?
This is the biggest proof to me that once you delete your personal data from Facebook, they still remain stored, even one year after, in their servers. Maybe its high time I pulled the plug from FB completely.
This was the defining moment for me when all trust to Facebook is lost.
